Hong Kong cruise terminal
Dragages Hong Kong, asubsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is constructing the Cruise Terminal Buildingin Hong Kong. The project is a design-build contract for a harbour terminal forcruise ships along with supporting facilities.
Located to the south of theformer runway of the former Kai Tak airport, it will be capable ofsimultaneously berthing two 8,000-passenger mega cruise liners.
Designed by architects Foster+ Partners and Wong Tung & Partners, the building will consist of athree-storey open plan landscaped structure. The absence of columns allowshighly modular use of space.
The project has been designedto comply with the demands of Hong Kong BEAM certification with regard to theprecepts of sustainable construction, combining energy saving measures with afocus on the building’s long-term performance: reduced energy consumption,renewable energies, recycling, etc.
The terminal building and thefirst berth are scheduled to come into operation in mid-2013.
The terminal will be one ofthe world’s most modern cruise ship berthing facilities, and will strengthenHong Kong’s standing among the region’s principal cruise hubs.
