Stade Vélodrome, Marseille
GFC Construction and Exprimm are reconfiguring the Stade Vélodrome football stadium and the surrounding area in Marseille. This public-private partnership contract concerns two sports grounds:
- Reconfiguration of the current Stade Vélodrome stadium, including roofing the stands toprotect spectators against bad weather conditions. The stadium will be entirely modernised and upgraded to comply with international standards. It will bebrought up to the UEFA 5-star category. Total spectator capacity will beincreased from the current level of 58,000 to 67,000. The stadium will remainin operation during the entire period of building works. When the renovation is complete, the stadium will generate more energy than it consumes, particularly thanks to the installation of photovoltaic panels and wind turbines, but also through the recovery of heat from a neighbouring water treatment plant.
- Restructuration and extension of the adjoining rugby stadium (the Stade Delort), with the creation of a 5,000-seat covered stand. The facility will comply with regulations in force covering national and international matches.
The surrounding area will be redeveloped as an eco-neighbourhood, with new homes, offices, hotels and shops. It will be add to the prestige of this iconic project for the city of Marseille.
