Logo of VSL
Stonecutters Bridge, Hong KongVSL is one of the world’s leaders in post-tensioning, a technique for improving the load-bearing properties of concrete by incorporating high-tensile steel cables into structures and then putting them under tension. Post-tensioning extends the potential of concrete applications in structures such as bridges, decks and floors.

The company is also specialised in cable-stay systems for bridges. Alongside these techniques, VSL is able to employ Ductal®, an ultra-high strength concrete which offers the benefit of lowering environmental impact by reducing the consumption of raw materials.

VSL holds numerous patents, enabling it to offer its customers high added value technical expertise.

VSL’s development is based on three strands:

  • An active R&D policy. The firm concentrates its research on cable stays, of which it is one of the world’s leaders, and particularly on saddles. VSL’s prestressing process has obtained European Technical Approval, which recognizes its conformity with the highest current safety standards, thereby allowing it to be used throughout Europe.
  • Establishing partnerships with related businesses. Together with Sika, VSL has developed CarboStress®, a prestressing system using carbon fibre that is stronger, more flexible and more economical. With Insituform Technologies, VSL has founded Insituform Asia Ltd, which specialises in the restoration of pipes in urban areas.
  • Development of a sales policy based on alliances. These alliances allow access to new markets with a comprehensive solution that combines VSL’s know-how with that of its partners.

  • Airport Link (Thailand)
