A work opportunity policy for people in economic or social difficulty

Soccer match organized by “Sport in the City”Bouygues Construction is committed to playing a part in the economic and social life of regions where it operates.

This commitment takes various forms in France, such as financing community organisations that work with young people, community partnerships in which employees are involved, such as GFC Construction’s partnership with the “Sport in the City” association, which holds sporting events and arranges site visits for young people, while Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France – Construction Privée has made a commitment to a French charity, the Fondation d’Auteuil, to recruit young people facing social exclusion for training at the Gustave Eiffel apprentice training centre, created by the Group in 1997.
The Group is also involved in youth job creation schemes. For example, ETDE and Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France organised a recruitment drive for young people from economically underprivileged areas in the towns of Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil in the northern suburbs of Paris, working in partnership with the local youth employment job opportunity schemes and community organisations. Out of 35 short-listed applicants, twelve were hired.

Internationally, the Group has an proactive local labour and manager employment policy that contributes to the development of the countries where it operates. In Cuba, for example, Bouygues Bâtiment International has set up a highly structured system for transferring know-how to locally recruited personnel.

Community support initiatives for education and health

Bouygues Thai, working in partnership with the French companies EDF and Carrefour, continued to support the Baan Nam Kem school in Thailand in 2006. Having rebuilt the school following the devastation of the tsunami, the company now finances the salary of a teacher from France, as well as teaching materials and equipment.

In the area of healthcare, DTP Terrassement has built a new clinic in Mali, open round-the-clock, dispensing healthcare to the 550 employees who work in the Morila mineral mine, and their families. The team of healthcare professionals has been increased to meet growing needs, particularly with regard to HIV/AIDS (7,000 appointments a year for a team consisting of one doctor, one nurse and six nursing assistants).

All in all, Group subsidiaries supported 75 community organisations and worked with almost 100 social insertion organisations in 2006.
