SITE MANAGER

The Site Manager organises and carried out one or more construction projects under the responsibility of the Contract Manager or the Works Supervisor.

Before starting work, the Site Manager studies the contract documents related to the execution of construction work, visits the site, and takes part in site meetings and coordination meetings. He finds the best technical solutions in collaboration with the Works Supervisor. He orders small items of equipment and ensures compliance with the planning, schedules, personnel and costs objectives determined by the Works Supervisor. He monitors the progress of construction work, draws up the survey of completed works and ensures compliance with quality and safety standards on the site. He manages one or more teams, and handles relations with the client and its representatives on the site.

Background
Higher Technician’s Certificate/Diploma in Building, University-level technical diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent
Higher Technician’s Certificate/Diploma or University-level technical diploma in Thermal Engineering, HVAC Engineering or Automatic Control Systems
Secondary school leaving certificate + 3 years minimum experience.

FOREMAN

In compliance with budgets and with quality, safety and environmental procedures, the Foreman organises the site and takes part in completion of the works.

The Site Manager analyses and applies the working drawings, updates them for producing as-built drawings, and organises the labour, equipment and materials required for the construction work. He allocates tasks to the members of the team, motivates them and shares his know-how with them. He prepares requests for purchases and equipment and checks their condition and use. He ensures the safety of the construction site and acts as an intermediary between his work crew and his superiors. He promotes relations with clients, local government authorities, local residents, etc.

COMMUNICATIONS INSTALLATIONS FITTER

The Communications Installations Fitter carries out the wiring and connections of communications installations in compliance with standards and with the manufacturers’ instructions. He then maintains and trouble-shoots these installations.

On the technical level, he carries out wiring, connection and commissioning of the installations.

His other missions depend on the specialist field in which he works, as follows:


  • Telephony specialisation:
    • fits private automatic branch exchanges (PABX),
    • installs terminals (analogue terminals and digital terminals) and checks their operation,
    • makes first level changes to parameter settings,
    • installs and connects additional items.
  • Information System Networks specialisation:
    • lays and routes the cables specific to these networks,
    • makes 5, 5E, 6 and 7 category connections, of which he knows the standards,
    • tests the wiring (by reflectometry).
  • Detection, Anti-Intrusion and Fire Safety specialisation:
    • carries out wiring and connection of central units and of terminal equipment (detectors, hooters/sirens, slaved control devices),
    • checks the operation of equipment (detectors, hooter/siren contacts),
    • carries out first level programming.
  • Access Control and Video Surveillance specialisation:
    • carries out wiring and connection of equipment (barriers, badge readers, cameras, monitors, interphones, etc.),
    • checks the operation of the installation.

On the commercial level, he promotes the company’s image. During any maintenance or repair work, he ensures that the service is not interrupted and that equipment remains available.

POWER & LIGHTING INSTALLATIONS FITTER

The Power & Lighting Installations Fitter analyses, prepares, designs, fits, wires and checks the various electrical distribution and protection equipment. He ensures their safety and the safety of other people on the site. During any maintenance or repair work, he ensures that the service is not interrupted and that equipment remains available. He  rovides technical advice for the client. He is responsible for completion of the work within the allotted time. He takes part in management of consumables and equipment in his charge.

His other missions depend on the specialist field in which he works:

  • Tertiary sector specialisation:
    • lays and routes wiring of electrical installations,
    • carries out wiring, connection and commissioning of lighting installations and low-power installations,
    • fits and connects secondary feeders and user distribution cabinets,
    • checks the operation of equipment,
    • identifies the items required for making up electrical assemblies on the basis of an installation drawing.
  • Low voltage transformer stations and consumer distribution switchboard specialisations:
    • fits and connects high voltage units,
    • fits and connects high voltage – low voltage transformers,
    • fits and connects the low voltage consumer distribution switchboard,
    • carries out the commissioning of installations.
  • Industrial specialisation:
    • performs tests, measurements and settings prior to a power-up trial in accordance with a trial procedure,
    • adapts to new technologies (automated equipment and new equipment),
    • carries out work in production units.
  • Maintenance specialisation:
    • identifies electrical and mechanical malfunctions of the complete installation,
    • locates and trouble-shoots anomalies and failures of mechanical, electronic or electrical origin,
    • carries out trouble-shooting and commissioning of equipment.

UTILITIES FITTER

As part of a construction site, the Utilities Fitter installs and connects high voltage/low voltage electricity lines, both above ground and underground, in compliance with directives that he receives.

He installs electricity networks in accordance with good practice. He opens trenches in coordination with the earthworks equipment (digger loaders and mechanical diggers). He marks out the trenches and works, makes all connections (cabinets, cubicles, boxes, etc.), erects poles and towers, unwinds and connects cables, removes overhead infrastructures, and ensures his safety and the safety of the environment.
