School relationships

Bouygues Construction’s technical expertise enjoys an excellent reputation. However, to maintain our position in a growing industry and ensure that we remain attractive, we are constantly seeking candidates with a wider range of qualifications. For this reason, we are forging close and special relationships with vocational secondary schools and apprenticeship training centres.

Discover below the depth and breadth of our work.

Business Competitions

The Site Worker ChallengeEvery year, Bouygues Construction holds several educationally oriented business competitions for students. These competitions cultivate our image as a benchmark employer and ensure that our businesses – building, civil engineering, electrical contracting and maintenance – remain attractive. They provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and serve as a pathway to a first job.

The Défi Compagnons (“Site Worker Challenge”) is a unique competition that gives students in vocational secondary schools a chance to build an original reinforced concrete structure. Throughout the year, students are supervised by a site supervisor and an adviser, who ensure compliance with project specifications and timelines. The teams are then evaluated by juries of industry professionals on the basis of precise criteria concerning deadlines, organisation, size compliance, quality of facings and stability, as well as creativity and innovation.

The Défi Compagnons is an excellent opportunity for students to discover the wealth of experience offered by our businesses and to explore a career in the construction industry. The competition is held at a number of our entities.

Partnerships

Partnership agreements
We enter into partnership agreements with certain vocational secondary schools. These agreements enable the company and school to cooperate and meet the expressed needs of each party. Educational activities are given top priority and take the form of classroom presentations, participation in exam juries and work site courses.

Apprenticeship tax
We support the development of technical and professional education in targeted schools by donating a portion of our apprenticeship tax. This contribution funds student internships and apprenticeship contracts within our Group.

Event sponsorships

Through our local entities, we occasionally sponsor educational and cultural events in schools.

Scholarships
Every year, the “Francis Bouygues Foundation” awards 30 three-year scholarships to motivated low-income students to help them pursue higher education. Each student receiving a scholarship is sponsored by a Bouygues Group employee.

Local Programmes

In cooperation with vocational secondary schools and apprenticeships training centres, we regularly organise visits to major Bouygues Construction work sites. These visits give students a good opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of an actual construction site and to develop initial contacts.

Employer presentations
In cooperation with secondary school, we offer presentations about Bouygues Construction that are conducted by line managers and an HR specialist. The presentations often take the form of a panel discussion or informational meeting, and give you an opportunity to learn more about our business and carreers by asking questions of our personnel.
