CFA Gustave Eiffel
In September 1997, in association with the Versailles Val-d'Oise – Yvelines Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Bouygues Group decided to found the Gustave Eiffel Centre to provide sandwich-course training for young people under 26 years old in Construction, Electrical Engineering and Tertiary Sector trades. The courses provide training for diplomas ranging from the CAP [elementary certificate of competence] to the Licence Pro [vocational/professional diploma], including the Bac Pro [vocational secondary school leaving certificate] and the BTS [Higher Technician’s Certificate/Diploma].
In addition to its association with Bouygues - CCIV Val-d'Oise - Yvelines, the Gustave Eiffel Centre has the backing of the Ile-de-France [Greater Paris area] Regional Council, the Ministry of National Education, and the support of its associate members (the Essonne Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Entreprises Générales de France - BTP and the Groupe des Industries Métallurgiques).
Training is provided through block release, with theoretical classes in the premises of the Gustave Eiffel Centre or in its associated centres, and hands-on training in companies. In the Training Centre, the trainees take classes in general education (French, Maths, English, etc.) and classes in vocational and technical training related to their future trades. In their companies, supervised by an Apprenticeship Master or Tutor, they learn their trades with experienced tradesmen, and they contribute to production by the team, workshop or department to which they belong.
The duration and frequency of block release varies according to the targeted qualification. The young person has the status of a salaried employee. Within the company, he/she is associated with an Apprenticeship Master or Tutor who is responsible for the trainee’s acquisition of the working skills required by the trainee’s job and for his/her integration into the company, and who guides the trainee throughout the entire training course.
The apprentice is often offered a job at the end of the contract.
