Aid for hurrican victims in Cuba
On Friday, December 12, 2008, Bouygues Construction, Bouygues Bâtiment International and the Bouygues Group signed an agreement with CARE France worth €350,000 to rebuild and rehabilite houses following the effects of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, which devastated the island of Cuba in September and October 2008.
| The programme, which is to be implemented over two years, includes the construction and rehabilitation of approximately 5,000 homes in isolated areas in the provinces of Holguin and Pinar del Rio, which will allow more than 25,000 Cubans to return to decent living conditions. |
As well as emergency relief aid provided for these families, the projectalso incorporates the creation of four workshops to produce eco-materials and technical training for local labour. To ensure the success of the operation, the communities benefiting from the aid are fully involved in the programme. The families will be implicated in the architectural design of their houses and throughout the construction process
| The agreement signed with CARE is part of Bouygues Construction's sustainable development policy. It follows logically from the Group's wish to stand side-by-side with the people of Cuba to rebuild homes that have been destroyed. A collection of clothing and non-perishable foods took place in the autumn, and members of the Group donated 1.5 tonnes of food and a container of clothing, which were shipped to the disaster area. | |
Bouygues Construction has operated in Cuba for more than ten years through its subsidiary, Bouygues Bâtiment International. It has a policyof exemplary practice in terms of both project design and site work. Inparticular, the Group attaches great importance to training Cuban site workers and supervisors.
