Quille's carbon footprint

Quille has just had the carbon footprint for its tertiary activities evaluated (excluding on-site activities that will soon be covered by CarbonEco) using the Marco Polo head office building in Rouen as the benchmark.
The overall result is equivalent to 611 metric tons of carbon annually for the Marco Polo building with 99% of emissions resulting from four line items:
  • Personal travel (home to work and business travel): 57%
  • Depreciation of buildings and equipment (computer equipment, furniture and vehicles...): 25%
  • Incoming materials and services (office supplies, company restaurant and miscellaneous maintenance and services): 11%
  • Energy consumption (heating and computers): 6%.

Measuring the carbon footprint has helped complete the travel plan started in July 2008.

Initial analysis of the travel plan and the accompanying questionnaire were set up in such a way that the answers could be used to both feed into the final action plan and to evaluate the carbon emissions from the Quille's head office and agencies. 522 collaborators answered the questionnaire, not only demonstrating Quille employees' concern for an issue such as mobility, but also making for reliable data
When seen from the point of view of the carbon footprint, the travel plan and corresponding measures (carpooling, economic driving, electric bicycles, public transport, videoconferencing, working from home...) become all the more relevant as the vast majority of emissions result from personal travel, in addition to vehicle depreciation. Consequently, travel-related emissions in tertiary activities (head office and network) for a company such as Quille account for 70% of total emissions.
