Constructed by DTP Terrassement, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Quille in a record time of 48 months, the A28 motorway between Rouen and Alençon required the excavation of 14 million m³ of earth, the construction of 125 km of motorway carriageway, 100 km of secondary roads, and the building of a hundred engineering structures and two large viaducts. The works took into consideration the motorway’s environmental integration into a natural setting of great value, preserving the quality of life of those living nearby, and the concerns of the agricultural sector. The A28 motorway provides Normandy with the major north-south communication route indispensable for the development of exchanges between Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie. Its operation has been contracted to the Concessions Department for a 32 year period.
