Biodiversity & sustainable development

Biodiversity, respecting living things and how they interact with humans, has become a major issue for our future. Green roofs, floral walls – Bouygues Construction is introducing biodiversity to its projects, in an original way and always respecting the environment. Combining construction, the city and sustainable development: Bouygues Construction’s latest challenge. At Bouygues Construction, we believe there are three aspects involved in restoring nature: innovation and developing expertise, providing new offers and services that meet stakeholders’ expectations, in an aim to co-create solutions towards protecting biodiversity and well-being in a sustainable construction context.
Bouygues Construction is constantly furthering its commitment to tackling this issue, notably through a socio-ecological observatory for urban biodiversity co-created with an association called Noé.
The aim is to better understand biodiversity in an area or a city, to gather information on local residents’ experiences and their expectations so as to continually improve our efforts towards making a greener city.

Quai 22 – the city reinvented

This area will be a great place to work, take it easy and unwind. The location, known as ‘Quai 22’, with its mix of city life, water and nature, will be situated on the banks of the river Deûle in the European Metropolis of Lille.

Cities to be: “From aspirational metropolis to inspirational city”

Providing levers for attaining the goals of sustainable development, such is the ambition of Cities to Be. In concrete terms, this means pooling experiences, solutions and best practices, generating momentum among the territories, and persuading players of the building sector to commit to such goals. All in the aim of creating a denser, more resilient city that offers, quite simply, a pleasant way of life.

Towns and buildings desperately seeking biodiversity

UN experts have issued a chilling verdict: in cities and in the countryside, biodiversity is at death's door. The good news, as with climate change, is that it is not too late. Although natural areas remain the priority, urban planners and developers in the broad sense must learn to build, to rebuild cities and buildings that will let ecosystems flourish, where ecological continuity really comes into its own.

Be Issy: a convenient window onto the city

Whether reimagining the tripod shape to move proudly towards the traditional shape of the closed island, stepping back from the street , using curves to provide a maximum of natural light or working with materials to create pleasant, social spaces, the research and design work done here at Be Issy by the architects from PCA Stream is intended to improve the lives of the occupants.

COP22: inventing the world of tomorrow!

Since 7 November, the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) has been taking place in Marrakesh. The objective of this 2-week conference is to continue and to intensify the fight against climate change. Outside of the summit that brings together diplomats and heads of state from the entire world, the Bouygues Group, through its subsidiaries Bouygues Construction, Bouygues Immobilier, and Colas, is presenting its sustainable construction innovations.

Worksites made more sustainable with recycled concrete

Building and Civil Works generates 250 million tonnes of waste per year. Today, only 40% of this waste is reclaimed, yet the Energy Transition Act imposes a threshold of 70%, to be reached by 2020. Transitioning from a traditional, linear economy toward a circular economy means entirely rethinking how we manage a worksite's materials in order to produce in a more sustainable and sensible way.
