Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Tunnel
Civil works
In 2013, Dragages Hong Kong and Bouygues Travaux Publics won the most significant design and execution contract ever assigned to Hong Kong: a 5 km underwater twin-tube road tunnel linking the Tuen Mun district to Lantau Island which hosts the international airport. Both areas are situated in the New Territories region. With innovation and respect for the environment central to the project, the extraordinary tunnel was dug out by two boring machines 50 metres below the sea. Each tube houses two lanes and is 14 metres wide – a record in terms of depth for Bouygues Construction. The site is managed in line with strict environmental standards in terms of marine ecology, water quality, noise pollution and waste management.
