Thanks to Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France and Bouygues Energies & Services, the piscine des Amiraux is back to its original glory. Built in the 1930s and classified as a historical monument, the pool was dreamed up by architect Henri Sauvage. Now it has been fully renovated and enhanced to incorporate modern-day usages while preserving its historical legacy.

The execution of this project consisted of bringing the building up to technical and accessibility standards and remodelling the reception areas, changing rooms, lavatories, and showers. A new heating process was developed, the glass ceiling was faithfully recreated, and the floor and wall coverings were restored to their original condition.

Finally, the centrepiece of the building, the 30- by 10-metre pool, was also demolished and rebuilt just the way it was originally, with all of the original construction details.

Floatgen is the first 100% European floating wind turbine, built and assembled in the port of Saint-Nazaire. Powerful of 2 MW, once the wind turbine starts working, it will produce the equivalent of the annual power consumption of 5,000 people.

This innovation in the renewable energy field is the result of cutting-edge work by Bouygues Travaux Publics and seven other European partners.

The major innovation is the floating foundation built to hold the wind turbine. The Bouygues Construction subsidiary developed a light, self-compacting concrete formula to reduce the weight of the structure as much as possible. This know-how confirms its expertise in terms of building port and maritime infrastructure.

The potential of offshore floating wind farms is immense as it enables electricity of renewable origin to be produced far from the coastline, with a reduced impact on the landscape and at a better price, thanks to the quality of the offshore wind. Bouygues Construction’s expertise in terms of maritime civil engineering is a vital asset in supporting the energy transition.

As part of the Monaco offshore extension project, Bouygues Travaux Publics is building maritime infrastructure as the first step of the six-hectare expansion of the city into the sea. This maritime infrastructure consists of a fill enclosed by a band of 18 trapezoid reinforced concrete caissons and will serve as base for construction of the new eco-neighbourhood in Monaco.

The caisson precasting area is located in Marseille-Fos, the large French seaport and consists of a 10,000 sq.m area working space at the dock, which will be used primarily for preparing the reinforcements and assembling formwork for the caissons. It also includes a 32,000 sq.m area of water, where three times the size of a football field, where a floating dock will be positioned. This 56-metre-long, 50- metre-wide and 27-meter-tall floating dock will make it possible to prefabricate the 18 caissons, a first in France. 

For the first time since its inauguration in 1909, Hôtel de Crillon got a second wind thanks to Bouygues Bâtiment Ile de France. This large-scale project aimed to fully renovate the luxurious 14,000 sq. m building, a surface area equivalent of the Stade de France playground. 

Bouygues Construction’s know-how enabled the emblematic palace of Place de la Concorde in Paris to benefit from a new decoration scheme, bigger rooms, new restaurants and a basement dedicated to well-being featuring a spa and pool. And all of this to improve the clients’ comfort. 

The Epicéa project is a major first for Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France. In Issy-les-Moulineaux, the Bouygues Construction subsidiary has designed a 100% wooden residential project that covers an area of 1,550 square metres. In addition to the structure itself, Epicéa is one of the first French projects with the BBCA (Association pour le développement du Bâtiment Bas Carbone) label for low carbon footprint buildings.

This new generation of housing includes 23 residential units over 3 storeys, private terraces and small gardens on the ground floor, and a basement with 23 parking spaces.

The Gran Hotel Manzana project (Cuba) consisted of the transformation of a building in the historic centre of Havana into a 5* hotel. The reconversion of this heritage building was based on 3 principles: the restoration of the façade to exactly how it was, the renovation of the shopping gallery on the ground floor and the creation of an interior patio.

The Gran Hotel Manzana has 246 rooms, 50 of which are suites, 4 bars, 2 restaurants and an infinity edge pool on the roof. The handover of this emblematic project took place in April 2017.

Bouygues Bâtiment International completed the Design & Build part of the new Zagreb airport project, the inauguration of which took place in March 2017. The company is also a shareholder in the concession company MZLZ, to which the Croatian state has entrusted the operation of the airport for a period of 30 years.

Over the works period of 36 months, from 2013 to 2016, 66,000 m² of space was created, to which 100,000 m² of taxiways, 8 contact boarding gates, 30 checking-in desks and 1,195 parking spaces were added, with a capacity that will be able to reach 8 million passengers per year.

Ridge Hospital in Accra (Ghana) is a regional healthcare hub consisting of some 30,000 m² over 5 levels. Handed over on a turnkey basis, it consists of a new building with 420 beds, a building with 42 apartments and a training centre for anaesthetists. Bouygues Bâtiment International dealt with the financing arrangements, the design, the construction, the supply and fitting of the furnishings and medical equipment, in addition to training in the use of this equipment and its maintenance for 3 years.

This ambitious and complex project, led by the Bouygues Bâtiment International teams from 2014 to 2017, has received LEED® Healthcare certification, notably by using solar energy for the electricity supply. A first on the African continent.

Bouygues Construction played a key part in boring the tunnels from the French side of the Channel Tunnel. Located between France and Great Britain, the Channel Tunnel provides a completely underground 50-kilometre link between the two countries, 37 kilometres of which is under the sea. It was bored at a maximum depth of 40 m below sea level. The cross-channel connection consists of two 7.60 m-diameter single-track tunnels (one in each direction) and a central service tunnel (4.80 m in diameter) for maintenance, ventilation and safety. Both underground routes were designed to allow trains to transfer from one tunnel to the other. At the time, the Channel Tunnel was the longest undersea tunnel to be built using TBMs.

The Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France subsidiary of Bouygues Construction renovated the famous Royal Monceau luxury hotel in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. Didier Poignant was the architect involved in the project, alongside designer Philippe Starck. The works not only gave the hotel a new look, but also a new positioning on the market.

The Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France subsidiary of Bouygues Construction provided restructuring and all-trade services for the Le Monde newspaper headquarters construction project. Notable features in the 11-storey building include a 140-seat auditorium, a restaurant, a cafeteria, chill-out zones, and a car park. Screen printed glass displaying the front page of the newspaper is used to double coat the building’s façade.

The Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France subsidiary of Bouygues Construction carried out renovations at the Ritz Paris in Place Vendôme. The hotel reopened its doors in June 2016 following four years of works involving 600 Bouygues Construction employees and several specialist artisans including cabinetmakers, stonemasons, and plasterers, to name a few. Works involved creating a summer restaurant with a sliding glass roof, a larger number of suites, an extension to the ballroom, and integrating the latest technological innovations, all without compromising the authenticity of the Parisian establishment.

The Bouygues Travaux Publics subsidiary of Bouygues Construction built the bridge from La Rochelle to Ile de Ré. The engineering structure means that the island is now less isolated from the mainland. It took only 20 months to build the 2,926 m-long, 15.50 m-wide structure — in other words, a spectacular feat!

The Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France subsidiary of Bouygues Construction refurbished architectural features and structures in the former Orsay train station, converting it into an approx. 45,000 m² space for art and exhibitions. The museum was built in a spectacular fin-de-siècle style. The RER line running under the site meant that Bouygues Construction had to strengthen foundations and build new vertical structures to separate the RER station from the museum building.

La Maison de l’écriture is located in Montricher in the heart of the Jura mountains, Switzerland, facing onto Lake Geneva and the Alps. It was designed like a small-scale city, with individual residences suspended from a canopy like cable cars. The site also includes a library, exhibition hall, chapel, and an auditorium. Energy performance is one of the complex building’s other remarkable features. Architects Vincent Mangeat and Pierre Wahlenont made Janet Vera Michalski's dream for a cocoon-like structure dedicated to literature a reality. The solid oak shelves today hold over 80,000 works!

The Ecovert subsidiary of Bouygues Construction was tasked with building the King's College campus in Waterloo, south London. The first British university campus to involve Bouygues Construction was built as part of a public-private partnership (PPP) signed in 1999. The university handed over responsibility for maintenance work on the campus to an on-site operator for a 25-year period.

The Hale Street Link was co-designed and built by Bouygues Construction Australia in Brisbane, in the centre of the Queensland capital. This road project across the Brisbane River consists of 3 viaducts of which the main one is 280m long. Various works have also been carried out on both banks, including a 52-space parking lot, a street extension, an underpass for pedestrians and cyclists, and the renovation of drainage systems and networks.

Chosen for the tender of the EcoCité project launched in 2009, the Chengdu school group located in the “Parc Marianne” neighbourhood in Montpellier was designed by the Coste architecture agency. Built in a record time (16 months, of which 10 months for works) by Bouygues Bâtiment Sud-Est, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, this energy-plus building now accommodates 300 nursery- and primary-school children. The project combines energy performance and comfort thanks to its innovative, efficient equipment.

The AGP consortium asked Bouygues UK to demolish, design and build the “new” British Home Office. Located in the centre of London on the former land of the “Three Ugly Sisters” in Westminster, the building forms part of the project to modernise the historic centre of London. Its avant-garde design is the work of British architect Sir Terry Farrell, DEGW interior decorators, and artist Liam Gillick, who co-produced the resolutely innovative plans. The flamboyant architect who is famous for the numerous prizes he has won, including the MIPIM Award in 2006, breaks away from tradition. Unusual interior decoration for the 3,500 civil servants of the Home Office.

Bouygues Bâtiment International, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, was the general contractor for the construction of a two-storey shopping arcade in the Jabi Lake business district in Abuja, the Nigerian capital. It now houses over 100 shops, 14 restaurants, a cinema on the mezzanine level and approximately 750 parking spaces.

The 100,000 m² site for the future Nigeria LNG head office is located on the Niger delta near to Port Harcourt and production sites. 22 buildings will be constructed covering a 37,214 m² surface area. Bouygues Construction Nigeria, a Bouygues Construction subsidiary, is undertaking the construction of the large new head office. The project will also include renovating some buildings and mammoth infrastructural works with the end goal of accommodating 400 employees from the Lagos head office by 2018.

The Royal Hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland, is a hospital for sick children. As part of construction and operation work on the centre, Bouygues Energies & Services has been tasked with multi-modal maintenance and end-of-life replacements for 25 years following the construction phase at the site, which will be completed in summer 2017. The centre will extend across 51,156 m² including nine operating theatres and 234 beds.

The London hospital, designed by the Scott Talion Walker architecture agency and Edward Williams Architects, was built by Bouygues UK, a Bouygues Construction subsidiary. The ultramodern building will offer the latest cancer treatments and surgery using cutting-edge technology. The new hospital is located nearby to the UCLH cancer centre and radiotherapy department, creating a major hub for cancer treatment in the heart of London. The centre will be one of the first of its kind in the UK.

In Bangkok, Bouygues-Thai delivered a residential complex along the banks of Chaophraya River in 2012 called The River. The complex, which includes a 73-floor tower and a 43-floor tower, offers nearly 900 luxury apartments with a wide range of services such as landscaped gardens, a gym, a multi-purpose sports area, pools, and parking lots, as well as a magnificent view of central Bangkok. At 258 metres tall, The River South Tower is one of the tallest in Bangkok. It is surpassed by MahaNakhon Tower (314 metres), which was also built by Bouygues-Thai.

In Strasbourg, the consortium led by Bouygues Travaux Publics is constructing a design-build Bridge over the Rhine. Its form and dimensions make this an impressive cross-border project. It will be a double-decker bowstring arch bridge and will measure 290 metres long and 16 metres wide. Entirely dedicated to environmentally-friendly modes of transport, this new bridge over the Rhine will relieve traffic congestion over this frequently used Franco-German route and will connect the centre of Strasbourg to the Kehl train station in Germany by tramway starting in 2018.

In Bangkok, Bouygues-Thai and VSL have combined their expertise to build the new Australian Embassy complex which will include the ambassador's residence, diplomatic services, reception rooms, a conference centre and an event space. The embassy, built in the Pathum Wan district near Wireless Road, will give its employees new work spaces that are bigger and more efficient, more modern recreational areas and better safety standards. Bouygues-Thai and VSL will also build technical facilities to treat wastewater, generate power in the case of emergencies and store potable water and water to be used in the case of a fire.

The Tour Allianz One is easily recognisable on the La Défense skyline with its triangular design standing at 100 metres tall. Currently the headquarters of Allianz France, the Tour Allianz One underwent from 21012 to 2014 a full restoration and energy renovations to respond to the most demanding environmental requirements. It is outfitted with a new façade and photovoltaic panels, reducing its energy consumption by 40%. It is one of the only buildings in La Défense to have four certifications: HQE, BREEAM, LEED and BBC Effinergie Rénovation. The interior design was created by the architect Gabriela Raible and was also designed by the consortium led by the Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France. As a modern and simple building, it offers redesigned work spaces that favour collaborative work, digitalisation and the cooperation of the 1,700 employees currently working in the building.

In Dolní Břežany, near Prague, VCES delivered one of the most sophisticated laser centres, the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) Beamlines, almost three and a half months early. With its unique laser system, this prestigious project developed in cooperation with the famous American Lawrence Livermore laboratory will give the international scientific community access to unprecedented multi-disciplinary research opportunities in a number of areas, including bio-medicine, new materials, medical imaging, optics and nanotechnologies. The ELI Beamlines centre was financed by 40 institutions from 13 European Union member states, making it a leading centre for cutting-edge pan-European research.

As part of a public-private partnership, Bouygues Building Canada and Bouygues Energies & Services have combined their skills to design, construct and operate the new E Division headquarters of the Royal Canadian Police in Surrey, British Columbia. They will also provide maintenance over a 25-year period. The project includes three buildings with Leed Gold and Bomas Best certification, the most demanding North American energy performance standards, a Datacenter and a 1,800-space car park. This ultra-modern complex houses 2,700 police officers and civilians on some 20 sites in the province.

In Nantes, the consortium led by Bouygues Bâtiment Grand Ouest and including the specialist company CMB Bois have joined forces to design and deliver the 30 BEPOS Grand Carcouët housing units. The keywords in this project: less energy expenditure! The technical design of the housing was extremely advanced so as to obtain energy performance that allowed tenants to significantly reduce their heating and hot water bills: photovoltaic panels, energy recovery system for grey water, Heliopac system for producing hot water, etc. This exemplary project won the EDF Low Carbon contest in 2012 and won a prize at the 2015 National Wood Construction Awards in the Collective and group housing category.
