A radical transformation for our construction sites

Connected, efficient and responsible construction sites

One of the cornerstones of our innovation strategy is optimising workflows by automating certain tasks that are strenuous, demanding or dangerous or offer little added value, and then using the data collected through AI.
The overall goal is to make construction sites safer, operations more efficient and projects more sustainable.

We are also focusing on using automation and AI to connect sites, equipment and teams to a digital supply chain, enabling real-time information flow that improves work coordination, safety and overall quality.

We implement solutions on our construction sites designed to reduce our carbon footprint. Automation and artificial intelligence contribute to limiting unnecessary travel, making optimum use of materials and reducing the amount of waste generated. They also help to reduce energy consumption through more precise and less resource-intensive operations.

Using robotics and automation to support our teams

We use robotics and automation for certain tasks to achieve three priorities: reducing strenuous work, overcoming a lack of manpower and boosting productivity, all while ensuring high quality and safety standards on every project.

In 2010, we created a Robotics Club to help speed up the implementation of these solutions. This group brings together our experts and encourages them to share their experiences, pool their innovations and come up with new ideas.

Detailed analysis of our projects enables us to identify the tasks that are most suitable for automation, prioritise high value-added use cases and develop prototypes that are directly tested on site.

Success stories

  • ARC: boosting safety and performance.

Automatic Rotation Control (ARC) automatically adjusts a crane’s position when stationary, removing the need for an on-board operator.

By detecting interference, adapting to wind conditions and streamlining operations, this solution, which was developed with AMCS and Potain, also enhances safety through an anti-collision system.

    Making site work less strenuous

Drilling is a common cause of musculoskeletal disorders, but the process has now been automated thanks to a mobile platform equipped with a vision-controlled robotic arm.

This tool can perform precise drilling, reduce physical strain and free up workers to perform higher-value tasks.

The HP SitePrint robot transforms 2D plans into fast (1.78 m²/min) and ultra-precise (<3mm) ground markings, which are up to four times faster than manual marking.

This technology has been tested and approved on several projects, and serves as a concrete example of how technology can support field teams.

Redefining design processes with AI

We are currently exploring practical applications of artificial intelligence when designing all types of structures. For example, we are using generative AI to create complex 3D models.

Machine learning and deep learning are already being used in generative design, data analysis, quantity surveying and design verification tools.

We are actively experimenting with these technologies to improve the reliability, automation and richness of all design phases, accurately assessing their opportunities and limitations in order to create more efficient, sustainable projects that are adapted to current challenges.
