Exceptional gravity foundations
Bouygues Travaux Publics, working in a consortium with Saipem and Boskalis, achieved a major feat by constructing and installing the foundations for 71 wind turbines at the Fécamp offshore wind farm in Normandy in record time.
A hollow base made of prestressed reinforced concrete, placed on the seabed on a bed of gravel and filled with ballast: this is the principle behind the 71 gravity-based foundations, or GBS.
Weighing around 5,000 tons each, they were built in Le Havre at a factory created specifically for the project, transported by barge off the coast of Fécamp in depths of 25 to 30 meters of water, lifted and placed in position using a high-powered crane ship.
With four parallel production lines, a truly industrialized process was deployed, combining meticulous preparation with optimization of design, methods, and sea transport. The quantities of materials were minimized, which allowed for a “just right” foundation design.

Sustainable energy for Normandy
With a total capacity of 500 MW, the Fécamp offshore wind farm is designed to generate enough electricity to meet the annual consumption needs of 770,000 people, or more than 60% of the population of Seine-Maritime. This flagship project illustrates Bouygues Travaux Publics' contribution to the development of renewable energies and the reduction of CO₂ emissions. Carried out in a challenging natural environment, it demonstrates the Group's ability to combine technical innovation, environmental awareness and structural robustness. Built to last, the Fécamp wind farm is a major milestone in France's energy transition, providing carbon-free, local energy for future generations.
