BYME Hong Kong
A complex technical renovation in the heart of Hong Kong
BYME Hong Kong, the MEP specialist subsidiary of Dragages Hong Kong (Bouygues Bâtiment International), delivered the full technical renovation of the iconic Mandarin Oriental Hotel, one of the most prestigious luxury establishments in Hong Kong.
Originally opened in 1963, the hotel underwent a major transformation to reinforce its position as a flagship five-star destination while upgrading all its technical systems to meet modern standards. The scope covered the complete renovation of HVAC, electrical systems, fire protection and plumbing, across a building of more than 500 guestrooms and 71,000 m², ensuring optimal comfort, safety and performance for guests.
The project presented significant execution challenges, notably the need to operate in a dense urban environment while maintaining strict deadlines. Works were carried out in a fast-track sequence, allowing certain floors to reopen while renovation continued on others, requiring precise phasing and coordination.
To meet these constraints, the teams implemented an innovative prefabrication strategy, with technical elements preassembled off-site before installation within the building's risers. This approach enabled improved quality control, reduced on-site intervention time and optimized logistics in a highly constrained city-centre location.
Completed within a tight 12-month timeframe, the renovation demonstrates BYME's expertise in delivering highly technical upgrades within operational luxury environments, combining precision, speed and minimal disruption to one of Hong Kong's most emblematic hotels.
