A bridge-esplanade designed for soft mobility
With the arrival of the high-speed rail line, the development of the Euratlantique district, the redevelopment of the quays, and the desire to develop the southern part of the city, the creation of a new bridge over the Garonne River became essential. The Simone Veil Bridge connects Bordeaux-Bègles to Floirac, creating a new landscape on the water.
550 m long and 44 m wide, it was designed as a veritable “esplanade on the river,” open to cars, bicycles, pedestrians, trams, and public events. With its eight piers, each founded on four piles 2.50 m in diameter, the structure provides a 30-meter-wide navigable passage under the deck to maintain river traffic.

Innovation at the service of a major project
Completed in 34 months, the Simone Veil bridge project demonstrates the operational expertise of Bouygues Travaux Publics Régions France. The work included civil engineering for the main structure (excluding the steel framework), a 250-meter covered trench on the right bank, and the renovation of the viaduct on the left bank.
The work, carried out in the middle of the river from pontoons and groynes, required 25,000 m² of formwork, 7,500 m³ of concrete and nearly 3,000 tons of reinforcement. The project was awarded the Top Site Innovation label, thanks in particular to the introduction of a connected crew using hydraulic jacks that can be controlled via tablet, improving ergonomics and productivity.
