A mixed-use, green urban oasis in Bordeaux
In Bordeaux, the Square Saint-Louis project has transformed a former industrial wasteland into a new mixed-use urban block where nature, housing, and amenities coexist.
Developed by Linkcity, this real estate project spanning over 13,000 m² is part of an urban renewal initiative aimed at restoring a central role to life in the city.
The development creates a vast landscaped space of 2,800 m² at the base of the buildings, a true green lung at the heart of the neighborhood, promoting community use and sustainable transportation.
The development combines market-rate and affordable housing, student housing, retail, and local services to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving area. The complex includes 125 family homes, 130 student studios, and over 1,200 m² of commercial space housing local shops and community amenities.
Designed as an intergenerational living space, the project fosters interaction among residents through shared spaces and a common room dedicated to community activities. By transforming a former industrial site into an open and vibrant residential neighborhood, Square Saint-Louis contributes to the urban and social vitality of Bordeaux.

Restoring an industrial wasteland in
the heart of the city
The site’s transformation is driven by a bold vision: to bring nature back to the heart of the urban project. In addition to the 2,800-square-meter central landscaped park, community gardens have been created on the rooftops of the student residence to encourage collective activities and urban agriculture.
These spaces were designed in collaboration with residents and local organizations through a co-creation process aimed at fostering a sense of ownership of the space by the neighborhood.
This participatory approach also manifests itself in the creation of events, collaborative spaces, and local initiatives that promote social connections. The project has been awarded the BiodiverCity® label, which recognizes real estate developments that integrate biodiversity and living organisms into urban design.
With its controlled density, mixed-use programming, and significant emphasis on green spaces, Square Saint-Louis exemplifies a new way of designing the city: one that is more sustainable, more inclusive, and more resilient in the face of contemporary environmental challenges.
