  • In spring 2014, after four years of works, our subsidiary Dragages Singapore, a member of the SHPL (Sports Hub Pte Ltd) consortium, handed over the largest sports and leisure complex in Singapore. Occupying a 35-hectare site, the Sports Hub should play a key role in boosting the development of the country’s sports industry. Located 15 minutes from the international airport, It will be able to host all types of world-class events such as concerts, sports events, exhibitions and conventions… the best of Singapore and the rest of the world!

  • “A multidimensional site”

“Sports Hub Pte Ltd presented us with a holistic vision taking account of all the dimensions of the site, which will allow us to promote sport, health, leisure and entertainment. Dragages Singapore has proved itself to be an invaluable partner for the construction of the Sports Hub, particularly for its expertise with respect to the most stringent safety standards and for its professionalism on the ground.”

Lim Teck Yin, CEO of Sport Singapore

  • Open to the general public, the Sports Hub offers visitors free access to numerous sporting and recreational facilities, including beach volleyball courts, a climbing wall, a swimming pool, etc., and they can attend major cultural and entertainment events. As far as the environment is concerned, the site helps to conserve urban biodiversity by planting vegetation that primarily consists of native varieties and seeks to save energy thanks to the efficient skin of the New National Stadium, centralised energy production and heat pumps.

  • The imposing roof of the New National Stadium – spanning 320 metres and weighing 10,000 tonnes [?] – is a key factor in the modularity of the site: it is retractable and opens over the stands, which are themselves movable, allowing the venue to host any type of event. It is a world first on this scale: the two parts of the roof weigh in at 750 tonnes [?] each! Another innovation on this project is a novel air-cooling system, known as bowl cooling, which pumps cool air (23° C) underneath the seats to ensure the comfort of the spectators. The pipes that carry the chilled water needed for this system placed end-to-end would stretch all the way round a marathon course!

Sports HubA better view of the project thanks to digital modelling

The Singapore Sports Hub is the first project on this scale to have used 3D modelling. The use of this technology made it possible to anticipate changes requested by the architects and the customer as the project progressed. The benefits were savings in time and more fluid relations between the various parties. In view of the complexity of this project, the use of 3D modelling allowed perfect coordination: six different players produced separate models, coordinated by Bouygues Bâtiment International , which was responsible for producing the global model. Digital modelling made it possible to find an elegant and effective solution for incorporating the enormous block of reinforced concrete that were essential for supporting the huge arches forming part of the roof of the stadium.

Sports HubA temple of entertainment

Our subsidiary Dragages Singapore is also responsible for managing the complex for a period of 25 years, with the objective of making the Sports Hub a flagship venue for sporting and recreational activities. To attract the widest possible range of visitors, the strategy focuses on multi-functionality: leisure areas, concerts, restaurants, etc. Such a wide variety of services calls for the very best teams! This is our first experience of working with partners from the entertainment and sports businesses, and horizontal skills integration is essential for the success of the project and the satisfaction of visitors. More than 200 events have already been scheduled until June 2015!

Sports HubTen French small businesses played a part

For the Sports Hub project, Bouygues Construction called on ten French small businesses that are acknowledged specialists in their fields, among them Cryogel  for cold storage solutions, Delta Dore for the surveillance of technical equipment, Envhyro  for the protection of the athletics track and C.M.I for fencing equipment.
