Materials sorting: the circular economy in action!
“Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.” These famous words from Lavoisier became the motto of Brézillon which opened a contaminated soil transit, sorting and recovery platform in February.
Located in Longueil-Sainte-Marie, north of Paris, at the immediate vicinity of construction sites in the Ile-de-France region, the Brézillon platform offers a relevant and economical solution for land management. It includes a dock, meaning that materials can also be moved by barge, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of operations.
As soon as they have been received and inspected, materials are sorted and screened. After analysis by an external inspection office, inert materials are reused on construction sites and polluted materials are directed towards a final outlet.
And success has been on the agenda, as the platform reached a first milestone in early April, after just two months, with 10,000 tonnes of contaminated soil managed! A sustainable solution that helps reducing raw materials waste as well as promoting recycling, two key components of circular economy.
