Perhaps it’s time for a radical rethink of our relationship to the city and to the living world with it!

For a long time, urban spaces were designed with a view to controlling and separation from nature. Natural elements were relegated to being ornamental, nuisances that need to be controlled or functional elements. This one-sided vision has not only impoverished our environments, it has also created a disconnect between humans and their natural surroundings.

The regenerative city calls for a paradigm shift. We should rethink our relationship with the living world, and see ourselves no longer as masters of our environment, but as players among others in a complex, interconnected ecosystem.
