Bouygues Construction secures expanded contract for AirTrunk's major hyperscale data centre campus in Australia

Delivering essential digital infrastructure

The partnership will deliver the essential digital infrastructure needed to meet Australia’s growing digital economy. The SYD3 expansion forms part of AirTrunk’s broader investment in Australia, with more than €6.4 billion² already invested across four sites and a further €48 billion³ expected for the country over the next decade.

The expansion of AirTrunk's SYD3 campus in Western Sydney is expected to create many additional work opportunities, bringing the total number of jobs supported by the project to 10,000 throughout construction. The works are scheduled to commence this month, with completion anticipated by mid-2028.

The SYD3 development will strengthen Australia's digital infrastructure capacity by providing additional secure data storage and processing capability to meet growing demand from cloud computing, artificial intelligence and enterprise digital services.

Conserve resources and promote reuse

During the construction phase, a strong focus will be put on reducing the environmental impact. The project will use low-carbon concrete and 100% Australian-made steel reinforcement, with at least 86 % of reinforcement manufactured (precast or insitu) from recycled content.

The project has also implemented Site Cycle, a circular economy solution that recovers, tracks and repurposes construction waste. Site Cycle provides real-time waste tracking and works with manufacturers and recycling companies to transform recovered materials into new construction products for reuse, supporting our target of diverting 90% of non-hazardous construction waste from landfill.

The project will create opportunities across a wide range of skilled professions, including electrical, mechanical and civil trades, engineering, project management, logistics and safety specialist roles. Through this project, A W Edwards and AirTrunk will continue to invest in workforce capability, apprenticeships and industry development.
