Three large-capacity storage tanks

The Dunkirk LNG project involves the design and construction of three liquefied natural gas storage tanks with a total capacity of 530,000 m³. Located in Loon-Plage, these structures measure 90 metres in diameter and 50 metres in height, making them some of the largest LNG tanks ever built.

The work involved the foundations, soil treatment and construction of the external pre-stressed concrete enclosures, using nearly 55,000 m³ of concrete and more than 7,600 tonnes of steel, including 2,130 tonnes of cryogenic steel. The design incorporates high safety and durability requirements adapted to very low temperature storage.

An integrated and responsible port development

The project is part of the development of the Dunkirk LNG terminal, a major international and strategic gas hub. The work was carried out with particular attention to preserving the coastal environment, taking into account the port and environmental constraints of the Clipon site and specific measures to protect flora and fauna. A concrete plant installed on site helped to limit transport, noise pollution and the carbon footprint of the construction site.

The project also had a social dimension, with mentoring, apprenticeship and work-study programmes contributing to the development of local skills. Together, these elements are helping to create a sustainable port infrastructure that promotes energy security and benefits the region.
