Iconic building transforms Hong Kong harbour front

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, constructed between 1995 and 1997 by Dragages Hong Kong (Bouygues Bâtiment International), stands as an architectural and historical landmark of exceptional significance. Completed in just 29 months, this 166,000m² facility accommodates up to 140,000 people daily, establishing new standards for large-scale convention infrastructure. The facility comprises three exhibition halls, a 4,700-seat convention hall, and comprehensive support facilities serving the most demanding international convention requirements. The project's execution required extraordinary technical achievement. Seven hectares of land were reclaimed from Victoria Harbour, creating the building platform.

The roof comprises 40,000m² of innovative construction and features 9,000 custom-adjusted panels supporting sophisticated mechanical and climate systems. The iconic winged-design roof, believed to be the world's largest curved roof at completion, created immediately recognisable architectural form commanding the Hong Kong skyline.
