A major infrastructure for mobility in Cairo

For more than 40 years, Bouygues Travaux Publics has been involved in the construction of the Cairo metro, the central transport hub of the Egyptian capital. The network, which already covers more than 80 kilometers, connects the city's main districts, facilitating the daily commute of millions of residents. Lines 1 and 2 have been completed, while line 3 is still partially under construction.

Once completed, it will link the left bank of the Nile to Cairo airport, crossing the capital from east to west and completing the existing network. In 2015 and 2016, the National Authority for Tunnels renewed its confidence in the consortium for the completion of phase 4A, now completed, and phase 3 of this new line.

Deployed in the heart of a dense metropolis of more than 20 million inhabitants, it responds to the challenges of fluidity, accessibility, and modernization of the existing transport system.

A project in the heart of a constrained urban environment

The Line 3 project faces major geological and urban constraints. The teams are working in a dense environment with tangled networks, while digging several passages under the Nile and building 15 new stations, including 8 underground, 5 elevated and 2 at ground level, over a distance of 17.7 kilometers.

Built in several phases, the Cairo metro brings together the contemporary challenges of tunnel boring. This project, carried out by a Franco-Egyptian consortium, demonstrates Bouygues Travaux Publics' ability to design and execute complex infrastructure projects, combining safety, precision and operational performance in an extremely constrained urban environment.
