Bouygues Construction Australia
A major project for urban mobility
Bouygues Construction Australia is a partner in the Cross Yarra Partnership consortium, which has been selected to design and build the Melbourne metro project. The contract covers the financing, design, construction, and operation of the future metro, consisting of a nine-kilometer twin-tube tunnel and five new stations (Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall, and Anzac), as well as the development of parks, footbridges, pedestrian areas, and shops in the public spaces surrounding these stations.

A digging method suitable for deep stations
Two of the five stations are known as “trinocular” stations and are excavated using spot excavation machines. The “trinocular” method involves dividing the construction of the station into three phases: digging the central tunnel to house the passenger access platforms, reinforcing it, and then, once this has been completed, digging the two outer side tunnels, which will house the tracks.
The construction of the metro will relieve congestion on the existing network, enabling it to transport more than 800,000 passengers every day.
