A future-ready commuter car park designed for sustainable mobility

A W Edwards, a subsidiary of Bouygues Bâtiment International, delivered the Leppington Commuter Car Park on Rickard Road, a design and construct project developed for Transport for NSW to improve commuter access and support public transport use in Leppington.

The four-storey facility provides approximately 1,000 additional car spaces and integrates several features designed for long-term adaptability and user convenience, including two lifts, a feature façade, a metal deck roof with solar panels, electric vehicle charging and provisions for future boom gates. The increased ground-floor height also allows for potential future retail conversion, supporting flexibility as the local area evolves.

The project was designed and built with a strong focus on reducing embodied carbon and adapting to climate change. Sustainable features include an average 37% recycled concrete mix, reinforced steel with an estimated 65% to 80% recycled scrap content, rooftop solar providing power to the building and shading for commuters, and a rainwater capture system that helps reduce localised flooding, filter runoff and support new landscaping.

An innovative ramp design also improves operational efficiency by enabling more car spaces on each floor, demonstrating how infrastructure can combine capacity, adaptability and environmental performance within a compact commuter facility.
