Parcs en scène: a diverse, green and open neighbourhood
Parcs en scène is a project to redevelop a disused logistics site linked to the Rungis national market, in the municipalities of Orly and Thiais. The aim is to transform this area into a mixed-use neighbourhood that fosters vitality, community life and the restoration of biodiversity.
Ideally situated near Thiais-Orly station (line 14), the site will be 12 minutes from Paris and 5 minutes from Orly Airport.
Winner of the “Inventons la Métropole du Grand Paris” competition, the project designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Tolila + Gilliland aims to transform a logistics area into a new mixed-use/residential neighbourhood that is low-carbon and has a low environmental impact:
- Buildings constructed from timber and bio-based materials, with green roofs that promote biodiversity
- Large-scale soil de-sealing to create 40% green spaces, including 30% open ground areas with predominantly planted features (public and private parks and gardens)
- The first pilot project to be awarded the BiodiverCity® Ready label at neighbourhood level; and buildings compliant with RE2020 (RE2025 and 2028 standards, including the BBCA label targeted at building level)
Nearly 8 hectares of outdoor spaces (parks, gardens, squares and alleyways) to restore nature’s place in the city and promote biodiversity, creating welcoming spaces that are pleasant to live in on a daily basis; and which will enable efficient rainwater management.
The neighbourhood will also be home to the metropolitan facility known as the Scène Digitale, France’s esports hub: a 2,500-seat arena, a training centre, offices, themed shops, VR/AR spaces and a lifestyle hotel.
