Building for life, building for care

Since early 2023, teams from BYMARO, Bouygues Construction’s Moroccan subsidiary, have been building a university hospital in the town of Ben Guerir, in the Marrakech-Safi region of Morocco. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, the hospital will house three main departments: General Hospital, with 148 beds on 3 floors; Aftercare and Rehabilitation, with 129 beds on 3 floors; and Geriatrics, with 62 beds on 2 floors.

Located one hour north of Marrakech, Ben Guerir Hospital will be a key part of the local health system, giving local residents easier access to healthcare services.

In addition to conventional medical equipment, it will be equipped with cutting-edge digital solutions: a specialised audiovisual system, surgical robots to perform operations remotely, a hospital information system (HIS) for digital monitoring of patient records and an automated pharmacy to deliver medication. The operator’s ambition is to make this a paperless hospital.

A university hospital built around its environment

This project is part of the economic development of Ben Guerir, known as the “green city”, which is already home to the science and technology centre of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, delivered in 2023 by BYMARO’s teams. Immediately adjacent to the university, the new university hospital of the “Smart Health Care City” will be a modern medical campus combining healthcare and innovation.

Set in a region prone to high temperatures, the hospital, consisting of 3 compact, intelligently connected earthquake-proof buildings, will cover an area of 70,000m², incorporating numerous green spaces to keep patients and hospital staff cool and comfortable. The buildings’ windows will also incorporate solar protection and sunbreaks to protect the premises from direct sunlight.

Coming four years after completion of the Bouskoura University Hospital in the south of Casablanca, this project is further evidence of the important role played by Bouygues Construction role in the Moroccan economy. It also demonstrates its expertise in the hospital sector and its commitment to creating buildings that contribute to the well-being of the population.
