Bouygues Construction wins its first public-private partnership deal in Canada

Bouygues Bâtiment International, a Bouygues Construction subsidiary, has signed a 30 year concession contract for the financing, design, construction, and maintenance of a hospital building in Surrey, British Columbia (Canada). The contract worth a total of 230 million euros (168 million euros for design and build, and 65 million euros for facilities management) was awarded to Bouygues Bâtiment International, in partnership with ETDE (1) and HSBC, by the Fraser Health Authority.

The PPP operation is Bouygues Construction’s very first building contract in North America.

Construction of the 30,000 sq.m outpatient and day-surgery building will be led by Bouygues Bâtiment International under a joint venture with a local contractor (Bird Design Build Ltd). Work has started already and will run for two and a half years (31 months). ETDE, in partnership with the Helios group, will be in charge of all facilities management services for the building throughout the concession period (30 years).

Bouygues Construction has been deeply involved in the hospital sector since the early 1980s and has built up extensive expertise in these complex operations. The Group is a leading contender in the field, being able to bring its skills to bear at all levels (financing, design, and construction of buildings, installation of services and facilities management) and under all kinds of contractual arrangements (construction management, main contractor, design-and-build, public-private partnership, etc.).

(1) ETDE is a Bouygues Construction subsidiary specialised in electrical contracting and facilities management.
