A strategic bridge spanning the bay

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge is one of Asia’s most iconic infrastructure projects. Stretching 42 kilometers, it forms part of a 55-kilometer highway corridor crossing the Pearl River Estuary. By connecting Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macao, it strengthens the economic integration of the Greater Bay Area and facilitates trade between these three major hubs.

Bouygues Travaux Publics, alongside VSL and Dragages Hong Kong, participated in the construction of a 9.4-kilometer viaduct section connecting the International Airport Island to the boundary of Hong Kong’s territorial waters via a 2x3-lane highway spanning deep waters.

An extraordinary shipyard

The viaduct consists of a 9.4-kilometer-long double deck formed by 5,714 precast segments. The structure achieved the feat of breaking the world record for the longest span built with precast segments: a 180-meter span with a horizontal radius of 513 meters.

This extraordinary project was carried out thanks, in particular, to two launchers (one on land, the other at sea), a 950-ton floating crane, and lifting jacks specially designed for the project. The complete prefabrication of the segments ensured optimal quality and made operations at sea safer. Designed to withstand major seismic events, this engineering structure is, to date, the world’s largest marine bridge and an exceptional benchmark for Bouygues Travaux Publics in Asia.

Une longue autoroute moderne et courbée, avec plusieurs voies et des lampadaires, s'étend sur des eaux calmes bleu-vert, reliant des îles verdoyantes tandis que le pont se prolonge à l'horizon.
