After being closed for 25 years, the Molitor swimming pool rose from its ashes in 2014 after 2 years of work. Renovation work transformed it into a high-class hotel and sports complex, while respecting the Art Deco spirit of its designer, Lucien Pollet. The indoor winter swimming pool, its double glass roof and its two levels of blue cabins were rebuilt, as was the outdoor swimming pool. The outdoor pool is bordered by a 5-star hotel, the MGallery, with 124 rooms on 3 floors and a 90-seat lounge restaurant. The hotel was put on springs boxes to absorb vibrations from the nearby metro line. All this work was subject to acceptance by the Historic Monuments architect.

The decision to extend the Bata stadium was made when Equatorial Guinea was chosen to host the 2012 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), and the extension of the stadium was entrusted to the local subsidiary of Bouygues Bâtiment International in 2010. On the works programme: an increase in capacity from 20,600 to 35,000 places, construction of a galvanized covered crown protecting 15,000 seats, installation of a VIP area and international standard-compliant lighting, all in 11 months! Football fans were thus able to experience the AFCON opening ceremony and the semi-final matches in a completely modernised stadium.

Designed to resolve Hong Kong's seasonal flooding issues, the West drainage tunnel collects water from heavy rainfall thanks to its 32 wells and linking tunnels which expel the water directly into the sea. To carry out this 10.5 km project, two of the largest hard rock tunnel boring machines ever used in Hong Kong were needed in order to dig out the granitic and volcanic land. This particularly technical project, carried out in a very urban area, won the best underground project prize in 2011 at the International Tunnelling Awards.

Financed, designed, constructed and operated by Dragages Hong Kong for the past 25 years, the Asia-World Expo is a one-of-a-kind international exhibition centre. It offers almost 70,000 m² of usable floor space including ten halls, a conference centre and the island's biggest multi-purpose concert arena that can hold up to 15,000 people.  All of these areas adapt perfectly to the needs of the exhibitors and event organisers as they are very customisable. There is direct access to the international airport and even a subway station specially integrated into the centre to aid user access.

In a joint venture with China Harbour Engineering, Dragages Hong Kong and Bouygues Travaux Publics have built the main viaduct in East Tsing-Yi, the last section of the new Route 8 linking Sha Tin town to the international airport. Located 60 metres above the port, this six-lane, 1,250 metre-long viaduct was built using the specific 'Fei Long' launcher, required due to the pronounced curvature of the spans (125 m radius). This extremely technical project helped to ease road traffic in one of the world's biggest container ports.

The Trade and Industry Tower in Hong Kong, built by Dragages Hong Kong, is the embodiment of excellence as far as environmental standards are concerned. The project features numerous green innovations, including a photovoltaic power system, solar water heating, low environmental-impact materials, rainwater recovery, a fibre optics daylighting system, air-conditioning using the district cooling system and green walls and roof gardens that account for 30% of the surface of the building. Everything combines for this ultramodern structure, which houses offices for the government and several government departments, to qualify for double LEED® Platinum et BEAM® Platinum certification.

With a spire reaching a height of 200 m, the Incity Tower is one of the tallest in France. A symbol of the transformation of the city of Lyon, the project has successfully met a social challenge by keeping nuisance from the site to a minimum, and also an environmental challenge, because it is the first French city-centre HQE® tower applying for the BBC and BREEAM® Excellent labels. The project is also technologically innovative, requiring the use of cutting-edge technologies including a climbing formwork system, guided facade protection and high-performance concretes, an helicopter to set last elements of the spire.

For its first contract in Myanmar (formerly Burma), our subsidiary Dragages Singapore  has been in charge of designing and building Star City, a large residential complex situated on the banks of the Bago river in the suburbs of Yangon (Rangoon). The site will consist of 4,980 apartments, car parks and communal amenities. A joint venture set up by Dragages Singapore will carry out engineering and construction for five sets of buildings, along with the accompanying infrastructure. In all, more than 500 people have been hired and given training in modern construction techniques to work on this project on the basis of transfers of know-how. 

A symbol of the city’s dynamic economy, Hong Kong exhibition centre was designed and built by our subsidiary, Dragages Hong Kong, on the seafront in Wan Chai. On a 6.5-hectare site reclaimed from the sea, the two 8-storey buildings house three exhibition halls and a 4,500-seat conference centre equipped with innovative equipment for simultaneous translation, lighting and sound, as well as 26 meeting rooms, seven restaurants, an international business centre and a 1,300-place car park. Featuring a glass canopy suspended on the roof at a height of 30 metres, the principal foyer provides a panoramic view of Kowloon. The Exhibition Centre’s place in history is secure: on July 1, 1997, it hosted the ceremony for the handover of Hong Kong to China.

Bouygues Travaux Publics is a member of a consortium building an offshore viaduct forming part of the new coastal highway in the north of Reunion Island. Replacing the current cliff road between Saint-Denis and La Possession, which is overloaded and vulnerable to the risk of rockfall, the offshore viaduct will form an arc between Saint-Denis and La Grande Chaloupe. More than 95% of the structures used for the construction will be prefabricated on land and then for the most part installed at sea. This solution limits the use of concrete and steel and the need for marine construction equipment, which consumes fuel heavily, and will allow a 15% reduction in CO₂ emissions while ensuring greater durability.

Bouygues Construction is responsible for constructing the L2 bypass in Marseille, linking the A7 motorway to the north of the city and the A50 to the east. The bypass project, designed to relieve congestion in the centre of Marseille, takes the form of a 30-year public-private partnership signed with the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy covering the financing, design, construction, upkeep, maintenance and renewal of the engineering structures and equipment of the infrastructure, some of which dates back around twenty years. The new link deploys the most energy-efficient and eco-friendly lighting and ventilation systems.

In the framework of a public-private partnership, Norpac has converted the Arenberg colliery site, part of the UNESCO world heritage list, into a major scientific and cultural facility dedicated to audiovisual technologies. The project included the refurbishment of the buildings and the construction of a 300-seat auditorium as well as offices for University of Valenciennes DeVisu laboratory research teams, computer rooms, testing rooms and even a TV studio. Built in a breaking record time of 17 months, the project mobilized 100 workers and 70 companies, 40% of which are rooted in the Nord region. The overall of the site is operated by Bouygues Energies & Services for 25 years.

60 years after its timber ancestor was dismantled, VSL has built the Kwidzyn bridge, which crosses the Vistula River, in northern Poland. The structure links the city of Kwidzyn to the recently built A1 motorway linking entre Gdańsk et Łódź. The 808 metre-long infrastructure has been used to carry out full-scale trials of the innovative VSL SSI 2000 saddle system, thanks to which VSL won the contract. The subsidiary was also capable of meeting the considerable challenge of installing the stays in less than two months, compared to the three months initially scheduled, in spite of the harsh weather conditions of the Polish winter.

The Mary Rose Museum, constructed by Bouygues UK in Portsmouth, was named Project of the Year 2014 in the United Kingdom in recognition of its complexity and its excellence. The site accommodates the wreck of the Mary Rose, the iconic Tudor warship launched in 1511. A building with an elegant design evoking the shape of a ship, the Mary Rose Museum was designed around a frame that holds the wreck, which was raised to the surface in 1982. The biggest challenge to address during construction was not disrupting the process of conserving the hull, which had to be constantly kept damp and maintained at a temperature of 19° C once it had been brought from the water. 

Bouygues Travaux Publics, a member of a consortium with the Soletanche Bachy group and CSM Bessac, is working on the extension of Line 14 of the Paris metro, to the north of the city. Apart from boring a 2.2-kilometre tunnel, the project includes the creation of a new station, Mairie de Saint-Ouen, as well as four ancillary structures, including reinforcing the infrastructures of line C of the RER (Regional Express Network). Forming part of the Grand Paris development project, these works pose considerable technical challenges in a very dense urban environment, particularly taking account of the diversity of soils. This infrastructure project will help to relieve congestion on Line 13, improving travel conditions and access to Paris for people living in the northern suburbs.

Bouygues Construction subsidiary Losinger Marazzi breathed new life into an old industrial site in Basel, Switzerland, to create the Erlenmatt eco-neighbourhood. Designed to encourage greater social diversity, the Erlenmatt property complex comprises nearly 600 housing units, offices, and a senior community composed of 63 residences, 56 care units and one restaurant. The Erlenmatt neighbourhood relies on district heating and photovoltaic panels to provide 100% renewable energy for its power needs. It is well connected to the public transportation system and limits car traffic in favour of soft mobility. This eco-neighbourhood is the first 2,000-Watt certified site in Switzerland, a distinction reserved for projects designed and operated for sustainable use.

VCES Property Development, a subsidiary of Bouygues Bâtiment International, has been chosen by the city of Prague to revitalise the Radotín neighbourhood, a 3-hectare area in the south-west of the city. The company intends to make this brownfield site a benchmark for eco-neighbourhoods in Central Europe by attempting to obtain BREEAM^® Communities certification. For this high value-added project, devised in consultation with the city and its residents, approximately 200 new homes built along with communal amenities, shops, a pedestrian square and a boulevard.  

Constructed by Bouygues Bâtiment International, the 30-storey tower in Lima housing the new headquarters of the Banco de la Nación, is now the tallest building in Peru. For this project, the teams have had to face a major challenge in building this structure in this particularly seismic zone, surrounded by the Andes. The building, which was constructed on behalf of the United Nation, also required the continuous pouring of 5,300 m³ of concrete, a first in Peru. Built in partnership with a local contractor, Cosapi, in only 15 months, the tower will also accommodate the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Meeting all the specific requirements demanded by aviation infrastructure, Bouygues Energies & Services teams offer travellers a secure, clean and efficiently run airport. These facilities management services are linked with 24/7 assistance, provided 365 days per year, and are compliant with ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environment management standards. 

As a member of the Vélopolis consortium, Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France took part in the construction of the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome, the largest in France. Just as imposing as the sporting events it will host, the complex contains unique features such as the world’s first 250-metre long, 8-metre wide cycle track and the first covered BMX track in Europe. The velodrome also houses the headquarters of the French Cycling Federation. Bouygues Energies & Services was chosen to manage the upkeep, major maintenance and renewal of the site for 30 years. A major technical challenge is posed by the pine-surfaced track: stringent monitoring of indoor temperature and humidity is essential in order to maintain its level of performance.  

The consortium headed by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France constructed a new iconic cultural facility in Boulogne-Billancourt on the site of the former Renault plant. The only facility of its kind, this unique design by architect Shigeru Ban comprises a large modular concert hall with the capacity to accommodate audiences of 6,000 and up to three different events in the same day, a 1,100-seat auditorium dedicated to classical music, a training centre and recording studios, all linked together by a large foyer area containing restaurants and shops. A hub for all genres of music, the City will also serve as a public promenade along the banks of the River Seine. The project is awarded labels in recognition of its environmental excellence: HQE Excellence (High Environmental Quality), BiodiverCity® label and High Quality Usage level 3.

Bouygues Development and Bouygues UK are carrying out one London’s biggest regeneration programmes in Canning Town. The first phase of the project, launched in 2012, focuses on the Hallsville Quarter. It includes the design and construction of 179 private and affordable residential units, a supermarket, a number of shops and 450 car parking spaces. This tranche of the programme also involved the creation of an Energy Centre that will supply the entire neighbourhood. Sequenced in five phases, the project will breathe new life into Canning Town and create a more modern, dynamic and open environment for its residents.

Within the “Pont de Normandie” consortium, Bouygues Travaux Publics built what was when it opened in 1995 the world’s largest cable-stayed bridge in France. It has a total length of 2,141 metres and a span of 856 metres, crossing the River Seine at a height of over 50 metres in order to keep the road traffic flowing without interfering with river traffic heading towards Rouen. In 1995, the 856-metre central span raised the world record for such a span by 80%. For Bouygues Construction, this project provided the opportunity to patent a construction method developed in-house, which proved itself capable of pushing a 700-metre deck up a stepped 6% incline.

As part of the Chrysalis project, Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France was responsible for the full renovation of Paris Zoological Park, which first opened in 1934. Every care has been taken to ensure the well-being of the animals in the new zoo, with in particular the installation of heating from fake rocks and the construction of a tropical greenhouse which is heated to 25°C all year round. Visitors can observe animals living in virtual freedom in five vast bio-zones that include 16 ecosystems. Under the terms of a PFI contract, Bouygues Energies & Services is responsible for maintenance and cleaning for 25 years working alongside the veterinary staff and animal keepers.

A former military fortress in Issy-les-Moulineaux, just outside Paris, has been transformed into an eco-neighbourhood. The challenge was met by Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, which constructed 1,211 apartments (all with the BBC - Effinergie^® low-energy label), a day-care centre for children and 1,590 m² of shops, all designed with the focus on comfort for residents. On the technological side, a cutting-edge building management system will enable residents to track their energy consumption and control a range of apartment functions from a touch screen or smartphone. This environmentally responsible neighbourhood makes use of renewable energies and it is linked up to Issy Grid^®, the first project for a smart energy network on the scale of a neighbourhood.

On behalf of the Cameroon Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Urban Development, DTP constructed the first 86-kilometre stretch of a road linking Garoua Boulai and Ngaoundéré. The purpose is to reduce the time and cost of transport on the unpaved final section of the Garoua Boulai – Ngaoundéré road network, providing access to the regional corridor linking the port of Douala to the capitals of Chad and the Central African Republic, which do not have sea access. The works consisted of asphalting the road over a 7-metre width and rebuilding five engineering structures.

A new-generation complex entirely devoted to shopping (120 retail outlets) and leisure activities (a 10-screen multiplex cinema), the new Beaugrenelle shopping centre, which has been awarded double HQE® and BREEAM® Very Good certification, took Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France  two and a half years to complete. With a stylish modern design, the centre consists of two precincts joined together by a metal pedestrian footbridge. A special feature of the centre is a 7,000 m² green roof which is home to thousands of plants and birds.

In the Congo, DTP teams are operating one of the largest gold mines in Africa for a period of ten years. In all, 200 million tonnes of rock and earth will be excavated from four pits of more than 700 hectares, for total production of 300 tonnes of gold. To meet this extraordinary challenge, DTP has included as many African-born people as possible in the management team and has set up a specific training programme to train local mechanics in carrying out maintenance operations on earth-moving and mining plant.

In the suburbs of Nantes, Quille Construction was responsible for refurbishing the Sillon de Bretagne, a rent-controlled housing complex which contains 580 apartments. The project also included redeveloping 6,000 m² of offices and building five public amenities. The aim was to guarantee the safety and daily well-being of some 3,000 people living and working in the complex. The programme was designed according to the precepts of sustainable development, with the use of solar energy to produce hot water and measures for offering work to people on social integration schemes.

Located a few minutes from downtown Miami, the Brickell City Centre includes two residential towers with 820 apartments, a hotel, shopping malls, etc. The main blocks are linked by a “climate ribbon”, which is a trellis composed of steel, fabric and glass whose role is to reduce the ambient temperature and protect users from the rain. The project is one of the largest in the United States to be LEED^® registered for Neighbourhood Development.

Roughly 100 kilometres south-west  of Madrid, à Talavera de la Reina, VSL took part in constructing a cable-stay bridge and the approach viaducts over the River Tagus. This spectacular bridge, 318 metres long, is the tallest in Spain. VSL supplied and installed 152 cable stays, the dampers and 890 tonnes of post-tensioning cables for the bridge, which soon became a benchmark for cable-stay bridges.
 

VSL was responsible for producing key elements for the Tran Thi Ly cable-stay bridge, a 731 metre-long, 6-lane structure that crosses the River Han in the city of Da Nang. In particular, the subsidiary supplied the 127 metre-tall central pylon, inclined at an angle of 12°, and installed the cable stays as well as with two bridge bearings with a record-breaking load capacity of 25,000 tonnes each. The new bridge helps relieve very heavy traffic and increase economic in the eastern part of the city.

Bouygues Travaux Publics has designed and built a new 6.7-kilometre highway linking the north and south of Abidjan. Among other structures, the highway includes an interchange and a 6-lane, 1.5-kilometre bridge, named the Henri Konan Bédié Bridge in tribute to the former Ivorian president. The new infrastructure results in a considerable improvement to traffic for the 100,000 vehicles that travel between the north and south of the city every day, and facilitates the transportation of freight to the port.

Bouygues-Thai and Bouygues Energies & Services joined forces to design and construct three photovoltaic solar power plants, located in north-east Thailand, and then to maintain and operate them for 5 years. They will enable energy producer Soleq Solar Thailand to generate approximately 45 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy per year, equivalent to the annual consumption of a city of 90,000 people.  

The Kai Tak Cruise Terminal is capable of simultaneously berthing two super-liners with 4,000 passengers each. The building, which consists of a series of superposed, landscaped platforms on three levels, has been designed according to the principles of sustainable construction, with a focus on renewable energies: photovoltaic panels, thermal solar panels, etc. A collection system has been developed for rainwater which enables it to be recycled and used for watering the roof, which is entirely green.

Teams from Bouygues Bâtiment Equatorial Guinea, a joint subsidiary of DTP and Bouygues Bâtiment International, have built an 84-kilometre stretch of four-lane motorway linking the port city of Bata, in the west of the country, and Ayak Ntang, in the centre. One of the biggest challenges to overcome was the geotechnical diversity of the terrain (marshes, mangrove swamps and a mountainous region to cross). 2,000 workers and 1,000 items of plant and equipment were required for this imposing project.

Mont Saint-Michel has been imprisoned by sand for over two hundred years. If the sea cannot be brought back to surround the island by 2020, it could disappear altogether. DTP is responsible for the hydraulic engineering works designed to remove sand from the bay: the teams have created 2 channels, one to the east of the island and one to the west. They are also constructing a seawall divider that will channel and accelerate the flow of water released from the dam which will carry away the silt and help rescue Mont Saint-Michel from the sand.

In the framework of a 35-year concession contract, Bouygues Travaux Publics  constructed and now operates a 50-kilometre motorway – the principal one in the country – between the capital city, Kingston, and May Pen, a town in the centre of the island. Highway 2000 has divided journey times for motorists by four. A demanding Quality-Safety-Environment system was in operation during construction to safeguard the environment and natural riches in this protected zone.  

Incorporating lecture theatres, a library and private study spaces, the Rolex Learning Centre, at the heart of the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) university campus, has been designed to encourage discussions, meetings and work. The “wave-shaped” architectural concept was a major architectural challenge; it consists of two superimposed arched shells with openings, a smaller one and a larger one (the longer one spanning 80 metres). It called for a high degree of technical expertise in modelling and post-tensioning engineering. The challenge was well met by Bouygues Entreprises France-Europe !

In partnership with Bouygues Immobilier Polska, Karmar was responsible for the construction of the head office of Orange Polska. The aim was to facilitate cooperation between the 3,300 employees, who had previously been spread over three separate sites. The head office has been designed as five buildings connected together by an interior gallery. Designed according to the principles of sustainable construction, the site was awarded BREEAM^® Very Good certification at the design stage. The complex is now recognised as one of the most high-performance buildings in Poland.

As one of the main stadiums of the FIFA World Cup 2014 – and most importantly, the venue for the final – the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro needed to undergo a major renovation. VSL performed a technical feat in lifting the cable-net roof structure. The operation was carried out in two phases using 60 lifting points, making it possible to lift it into place in a single piece. Some 85 tonnes of mini-cables and 270 tonnes of equipment were delivered to Brazil.  

The Yyldyz Hotel, a 5-star luxury hotel located in Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan, took Bouygues Bâtiment International  24 months to complete. The imposing, teardrop-shaped tower is more than 100 metres tall, and contains 155 bedrooms, a banqueting hall, a panoramic restaurant and a nightclub. A fine example of our expertise in luxury hotels. 

In Prague, Bouygues Bâtiment International has refurbished the Cerny Most shopping centre, constructing a further 40,000 m² of floor space to make room for three times more shops. Prague now possesses the most modern shopping centre in the country. Designed according to the principles of sustainable construction, the shopping centre has been awarded BREEAM^® certification. To achieve certification, our subsidiary opted for such solutions as storing and reusing stormwater and using triple glazing for the glazed walkways.

Bouygues Travaux Publics handled the construction of the nuclear island for the Olkiluoto EPR reactor in Finland, in addition to the backup and storage buildings. The biggest issue was ensuring the safety of the site. This colossal project has created a veritable fortress, 50 m in diameter, with an external shell made from reinforced concrete, and an internal containment structure made from 1.30 m of pre-stressed concrete lined with a metallic "skin". In total, 144,000 m³ of concrete were poured, much of it going toward the external shells which protect the power station from outside assaults, including the impact of an aeroplane.

Bouygues Construction handled the development of the brand new regional hospital in Orléans. In order to provide more comfort to patients, the La Source hospital centre now groups the two Orléans university hospital facilities, expanding its capacity by 29 %. As the number-one HQE®-certified regional hospital, the centre will relies more on alternative sources of energy, bioclimatic architecture and extremely energy-efficient equipment, such as triple-pane windows with integrated blinds.

Constructed in 1969, the Marquette-Lez-Lille water treatment facility was no longer in compliance with European regulations. The new facility, designed and constructed by Norpac, is among the ten largest in France, and treats the industrial waste water of 37 towns and villages. More efficient, modern and compact, the facility is a model of sustainable construction, with buildings integrated into the landscape, systems that minimise sound and odour pollution, and HYBAS™ technology for ensuring that waste water treatment is entirely organic.

Bouygues Travaux Publics, Quille Construction and DTP  handled the civil engineering for EDF's EPR reactor in Flamanville, a third-generation European nuclear reactor. The site comprises 12 industrial buildings, including the machine room and the containment structure in the reactor building. With 400,000 m³ of concrete poured and 50,000 tonnes of supporting elements assembled (yielding a weight seven times greater than that of the Eiffel Tower), this is a site of extraordinary proportions. The reactor dome installed in July 2013 weighs 240 tonnes on its own!

In the framework of a 25-year public-private partnership, Bouygues Travaux Publics and DTP are responsible for the finance, design, construction and of the Nîmes-Montpellier rail bypass, 80 kilometres of new railway which will enable passengers to travel between Paris and Montpellier in less than 3 hours. Incorporating 2 stations and 145 engineering structures, including seven viaducts, this massive project will occupy some 1,500 employees, partners and subcontractors for four years. This has been planned as a biodiversity-friendly project: compensatory measures have been proposed which will be put into effect throughout the entire duration of the contract.

Alongside Derwent Living, Bouygues Development was awarded a contract to finance, design and build a student accommodation development on the campus of the University of Hertfordshire, and to operate it for 50 years. It consists of 3,000 student bedrooms, associated social spaces and a campus gym, designed and built by Bouygues UK. This campus is one of the most advanced in the United Kingdom in terms of sustainability. The timber-frame buildings is equipped with their own energy-production infrastructure. This campus obtained BREEAM® Outstanding certification, i.e the top level of environmental accreditation.

If you want a magnificent view of the Üetliberg or the Letzigrund stadium, look no further than the Prime Tower in Zurich, the highest building in Switzerland, which is 36 storeys and 126 metres tall. The construction works for this LEED® Gold-certified building, which called for 4,388 glazing units, a third of which allow natural ventilation, were carried out by our Swiss subsidiary, Losinger Marazzi. The innovative design enables all spaces in the building, including the centre of the tower, to be illuminated by daylight, ensuring optimal conditions for the 2,000 people who work in the tower.

In Hong Kong, 2 Bouygues Construction subsidiaries, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Dragages Hong Kong, won a contract to construct the 3.5-kilometre underground stretch of the railway linking Hong Kong to Guangzhou. In this very dense urban environment, numerous networks and deep-laid foundations of buildings made tunnelling operations for the two parallel tunnels, each 9 metres in diameter, a real challenge. During the site work, many measures were taken to minimise the nuisance caused to local residents, in particular the installation of 2 sound baffles, which reduced site noise by 49 decibels.

Imagine a building that generates more electrical energy than it consumes! Bouygues Immobilier designed the Green Office Meudon as a pioneering concept in 2001. Nine years later, Bouygues Energies & Services won the contract to operate the site, in the form of an energy performance contract. To optimise the building’s energy consumption, nine distinct uses of energy are analysed (heating, lighting, air conditioning, etc.). The results are conclusive: after the first year of operation, the building was generating more energy from renewable sources than it was consuming.

With monumental gates and carved ceilings, this sublime luxury hotel complex, built as a turnkey project by Bouygues Bâtiment International, has been designed as a typical Moroccan medina and is complete with traditional Moroccan handcrafted finishes. The unique project provides accommodation in 53 riads. Everything about it is exceptional: the baths were delivered by helicopter, the marble was quarried in Carrara, and the onyx was imported from Pakistan.

With a 55,000-seat stadium, a covered 6,000-seat aquatic centre and a fully modular 3,000-seat sports arena, the Singapore Sports Hub is practically a sporting city! Signed under a public-private partnership for the Singapore Ministry of Youth and Sport, the contract includes the financing, design, construction and operation for 25 years of a complex incorporating a number of unique sporting facilities. This project applies the most stringent environmental standards.

Constructed by Bouygues Travaux Publics in the context of the major projects carried out in preparation for the Sydney Olympics in 2000, this 10-kilometre metro line, of which 9 kilometres are underground, provided the city with a major infrastructure. The works on this tunnel beat all records in Australia: at the time of construction, it was the longest tunnel ever driven on the continent, the biggest-diameter TBM used and the first use of a slurry-shield machine. With four new metro stations, the line has been a key addition to the city’s public transport services. It is used by more than 11 million passengers annually.

Working alongside Pertuy Construction, Quille Construction and Colas, Bouygues Travaux Publics carried out the design, construction and financing of an 11.2-kilometre tramway line linking the north and south of the Reims conurbation, which the companies now operate and maintain. The tramway was brought into service after the record time of only 2 years of works, and it has been a great success. Approximately three-quarters of the inhabitants of Reims express themselves satisfied with this reliable means of transport which enables them to cross the city rapidly wo problems of congestion.

Located in the heart of the financial centre of Dubai, the 5-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel has 270 bedrooms, 71 suites, three restaurants and a shopping mall. It offers its customers the very best level of service. Constructed by Bouygues Bâtiment International, this vast complex consists of two 15-storey buildings with facades clad in pink granite and interior fittings that combine modern design with Arab influences. Pre-tensioning work was carried out by VSL, while the MEP systems (the air-conditioning, electricity and plumbing packages) were designed and installed by Bouygues Energies & Services.

We have totally refurbished Challenger, our own head office, twenty years after it first opened. The twin aims were to increase energy and environmental performance while improving the working conditions of the 3,200 people employed there. The project included the replacement of 88 % of the facade by a double-skin facade with very high thermal performance and the installation of more than 25,000 m² of photovoltaic solar panels. All of this makes Challenger one of the very first renovated positive-energy commercial buildings.

The new Larnaka International Airport, which was inaugurated in November 2009, extends over an area of 100,000 m². In the framework of a 25-year public-private partnership, Bouygues Bâtiment International designed and constructed the new terminal, in accordance with European and anti-seismic standards. It is highly energy-efficient; its ventilation system includes an air displacement diffuser to avoid waste. The terminal provides greater comfort than its predecessor and helps reduce passenger waiting time.

In Rostock, in north-eastern Germany, Bouygues Construction financed, designed and constructed the road tunnel that crosses the River Warnow. Forming part of the Berlin-Hamburg link with no disruption to river traffic, the tunnel is submerged rather than bored, as this was a less expensive solution. Bouygues Construction now operates the site, which was Germany’s first concession-operated motorway structure.

GreenCity will be completed in 2018. It is an ambitious project, with 67,000 m² of offices, 8,000 m² of shops and 750 homes, a third of them in the low-rent sector. The development will have the "2000-watt site" label – a concept developed by the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale in Zurich which aims to reduce the electrical consumption of each inhabitant from 6,000 W to 2,000 W. GreenCity will produce energy through an integrated hydroelectric plant, photovoltaic panels and wood fuel heating. Losinger Marazzi, a Swiss subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is responsible for building it.

The prestigious British Home Office (the U.K.’s Ministry of the Interior) in the heart of London was built by Bouygues UK. The main building provides 75,000 m² of work space for around 3,500 civil servants. The complex, which is equipped with a heat-pump and double-flow ventilation and employs eco-labelled materials, won a RIBA Award for its high architectural quality and its environmental performance. Bouygues Energies & Services is responsible for Facilities Management for a period of 26 years.

Bouygues Travaux Publics has financed, designed and constructed a second tunnel under the River Tyne and refurbished the original tunnel. Operated by the Group, the twin-tunnel crossing improves traffic flow on the A19 highway linking the north and south of the Newcastle-upon-Tyne region. During the entire period of the project, targeted actions were put in place to ensure the protection of the environment. To give one example, the dredging of the river was organised outside the migration period of salmon.

Under the terms of a public-private partnership contract including finance, design, construction and operation, Bouygues Bâtiment International was responsible for the Budapest Arena. This fully modular, 40,000 m² venue, opened in 2002, can seat up to 15,000 people, and hosts major events of all kinds. It is elliptically shaped, and boasts particularly high-quality acoustics, with an echo of 3 seconds (compared to 7 seconds at Paris-Bercy).

In the framework of Croatia’s first infrastructure concession project, Bouygues Travaux Publics and DTP has carried out all the works: widening a 100-kilometre stretch of road, constructing or extending the engineering structures, building toll plazas and installing communications and drainage networks. Operated and maintained by the Group for a period of 32 years, the motorway has a key role to play in improving access to the Istria peninsula.

From 2007 to 2018, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Vinci constructed the confinement shelter for the reactor of the Chernobyl nuclear plant, in Ukraine. The colossal structure (measuring 108 metres in height and with a frame weighing 23,000 tonnes) has a projected lifespan of 100 years. It allows  dismantling the damaged reactor that was responsible for the disaster in 1986. All the workers involved in this project received increased medical monitoring, and have been issued with specific protection equipment.

Crossing the Masan Bay, close to Busan, the second largest city in South Korea, is a magnificent 1,750-metre long cable stay suspension bridge. Bouygues Travaux Publics et Hyundai Engineering Corp are responsible for this concession operation, involving design, construction and operation for 30 years. During the entire period of construction, environmental issues were taken extremely seriously. To give one example, nets were installed to ensure that no construction waste fell into the water.

Dragages Hong Kong and VSL are working on the first section of the world’s largest sea bridge between Hong Kong and the cities of Macao and Zhuhai. It will carry a dual three-lane highway over the sea for approximately 42 kilometres. The project is applying the most stringent environmental practices. Particular attention is being given to conserving the seabed and protecting the Chinese white dolphins, which are an endangered species. Handover is scheduled for 2016.

Standing at 314 metres tall, the grandiose MahaNakhon Tower decorates the Bangkok skyline. This original and complex skyscraper is situated in Bangkok's business district and was designed by Bouygues-Thai for Pace Development. At 314 metres tall, the singularity of the building's architecture gives each of its 77 floors a unique character. The MahaNakhon Tower also houses various facilities, such as a shopping centre, 184 high-end residences operated by the Ritz Carlton and a 150-room hotel.

VSL, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction specialising in post-tensioning (adding steel cables to concrete), installed the world’s highest skybridge to link the Nation Towers in Abu Dhabi. This extraordinary structure, one of the marvels of local architecture, is suspended 202.5 metres above the ground. The 385-tonne link bridge was hoisted into place in Spring 2011. It was a remarkable technical feat, particularly as the wind was blowing at around 35 kph.

Since 2014, the Doha business district in Qatar includes a brand new 700,000 m² office complex, known as the Qatar Petroleum District. The first project completed by Bouygues Bâtiment International in Qatar, the development consists of nine office towers ranging between 16 and 47 storeys, as well as a 405-room 5-star hotel, car parks with 5,340 places and a conference centre. To meet all its needs for air-conditioning, in particular for its data centre, the QP District produces its own chilled water.

Since Summer 2011, South Africans have been able to take advantage of the rapid rail link which now connects Johannesburg and Pretoria in 38 minutes, with no bottlenecks. Between 2006 and 2011, Bouygues Travaux Publics took part in the construction of the 77-kilometre line, which includes 15 kilometres of tunnels. The construction site abided by strict environmental protection guidelines which included replanting all trees removed, minimising noise levels and limiting the amount of dust generated.

Following its involvement in the construction of metro lines 1 and 2 in Cairo alongside Colas Rail and Alstom, Bouygues Travaux Publics is now boring tunnels for line 3. On completion, scheduled for 2020, the link will be around 30 kilometres long. It will cross the Egyptian capital from east to west, and will link the city with the airport. The complete metro network will form a public transport network with an essential task to perform in relieving traffic congestion in Cairo, where car traffic is at saturation point. Up to 2 million passengers per day are expected to travel on the new section of metro.

In 2014, the consortium of contractors led by Bouygues Travaux Publics completed works of the extension to the Tangiers Med container port. This second port complex includes the construction of two new breakwaters, which were mostly created using concrete caissons with low environmental impact. This facility increased the capacity of Tangiers to 8 million containers, making it one of the biggest container ports in the Mediterranean and in Africa.

In Summer 2014, Bouygues Travaux Publics handed over a major road tunnel in Miami, Florida. Constructed under a public-private partnership contract, it links Watson Island to the Port of Miami, which was formerly served by only a single highway. The new road is good for the economic development of the port zone and decongests downtown areas by removing the freight traffic that transited through the city. The two-tube tunnel required special techniques for boring through highly porous substrates of dead coral.

In Mexico, VSL, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, has constructed the second world’s tallest cable-stay bridge, as confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records. Located between Mazaltan and Durango, the bridge spans a deep canyon and reaches approximately 403 metres above the Baluarte river. This infrastructure play a key part in the economic development of the country, as it is form part of the highway link that connects the Pacific Coast to the Gulf of Mexico in two-and-a-half hours, as against six hours before. 

With the Laguna del Este 3 luxury hotel complex which opened in 2014, Bouygues Construction provides the best possible luxury in the largest island in the Caribbean. The 1,020 rooms spread over an 83,000 m² site offer the best in comfort and immediate proximity with the paradise beaches of the Cayo Santa Maria. Featuring contemporary architecture, the hotel consists of 19 bungalow-style buildings, a theatre and entertainment centre, a beach grill, a spa and restaurants well stocked with local delicacies.

Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France delivered France’s new Ministry of Defence in 2015, a futuristic building with a white laminated facade which contrasts with the monumental entrance. The site accommodates the Minister of Defence’s special advisors, the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the French defence procurement agency and other military departments and administrative services. In all there is roughly 9,300 people spread over 410,000 m2.

This top-quality residential complex has been designed by Bouygues Bâtiment International. Built on 12 levels, this complex comprises only 16 apartments with a minimum surface area of 550 m².

As part of a concession contract, Bouygues Construction and Colas constructed the north section of the A41 motorway. The particularly challenging 3-kilometre Mont Sion tunnel was built in record time thanks to the use of 18,000 voussoirs precast on-site. The motorway means that Annecy is now 30 minutes from Geneva, which is key to the economic growth of the region.
