Building for life, building for connection

VSL’s Bridgewater project goes far beyond simply the construction of a bridge. This ambitious project, located on the island of Tasmania, focuses on building a modern bridge across the River Derwent at Bridgewater. The 1.2-kilometer bridge represents a feat of engineering, incorporating cutting-edge technologies to ensure its longevity. It is designed not only for vehicles, with a capacity of around 22,000 vehicles per day, but also for pedestrians and cyclists, including safe lanes to encourage sustainable modes of transport.

The project to improve connectivity and mobility on the island of Tasmania began in 2022. Completion of the bridge is scheduled for 2025, promising a new era of development for local communities. By reducing distances and improving connections, the bridge will be responsible for better access to education, employment and essential services, and thus for stimulating the local economy.

The construction of this bridge also addresses environmental and sustainable mobility issues. Thanks to a more efficient alternative to current routes, it will shorten travel times and reduce carbon emissions, thereby helping to preserve Tasmania’s environment.

The Bridgewater project is more than just infrastructure; it will connect communities. The bridge is not only a triumph of engineering, but also a catalyst for social and economic transformation in the region.
